Women in art – what it takes

Lucy Pittaway: The Renaissance of an Artist, Mother, and Business Leader

From earning the titles of ‘Best New Business’ in 2017 and the ‘UK’s Most Popular Published Artist’ for 2018 and 2019 by the Fine Art Trade Guild, Lucy Pittaway’s meteoric rise from her roots in Yorkshire is undeniable. Beginning her journey with studies in Graphic Design, Mixed Media, and Photography at Northumbria University, Lucy transitioned from working in a modest home studio to leading a dedicated team, integral to the flourishing business she helms today. Now a respected artist with six thriving flagship galleries, numerous accolades, and a booming ecommerce business named ‘Best Art Website of the Year’ in 2019, Lucy’s reach is expansive.

Distinct Style and Recognition

Lucy’s unique artistic flair transforms everyday scenes into lively and imaginative artworks. Earning her niche in the UK art market, Lucy’s relentless commitment is evident. Her recognition as the ‘Official Artist of the Tour de Yorkshire’ for three consecutive years (2016-2018) led to the creation of original artworks, especially within the cycling collection, that remain in high demand.

The Balancing Act

Juggling the intricacies of a thriving business with the responsibilities of home can be daunting. “The equilibrium requires meticulous planning, considering the needs of my two children and husband, whilst also ensuring personal downtime,” Lucy articulates. Her disciplined morning routine, beginning at 5:30 am, is pivotal for introspection, mindfulness, and day-to-day planning.

Lucy emphasises, “The temptation is to let the business engulf your entire day. However, I lean towards progress over perfection. This approach benefits everyone. Quality time with family and friends invigorates the soul and fuels creativity.”

Artistic Endeavours

Lucy’s masterpieces encompass original creations, Giclée prints, captivating canvasses, and even span into exquisite homeware and stationery. Additionally, her collections grace numerous galleries and retailers across the UK.

With new collections on the horizon, Lucy promises fresh original art, poised to enchant her devoted admirers even further.
