Difficult Decision to Close Two Galleries

It is with great sadness that Lucy Pittaway Ltd has shared the news that two of its galleries will be closing later this year.

The Bowness-in-Windermere gallery will close in the next couple of months, and the Harrogate gallery will close its doors on March 22nd.

Increased Costs
Rising overhead costs, experienced by many businesses across the UK, have played a significant role in making this incredibly difficult decision. A significant rent increase at the Harrogate gallery has also been a significant contributing factor. A consultation process with the five colleagues directly affected by the closures is underway.

Re-organisation
A restructuring process of the operational functions at the business’s Brompton-on-Swale headquarters has also begun.  A consultation process with two colleagues whose roles are sadly at risk of redundancy is also underway.

Business as usual
The five galleries in Richmond, York, Yarm, Newcastle, and Keswick, along with the destination Outlet store in Brompton-on-Swale, are not affected. The Lucy Pittaway Ltd website will also continue trading as usual.

The business’s Managing Director, artist Lucy Pittaway, said: “We are very saddened to share this news. It has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, and one which has not been taken lightly.

“We, like so many other retail businesses across the UK, have faced ongoing and significantly increased operational costs in recent years. We would like to thank our colleagues for all of their hard work and, of course, our customers for their support at both galleries. It has been so very gratefully appreciated.”

Closing Down Sale
Both galleries will now host closing-down sales in the coming weeks, with a 30% reduction on all stock.
