The Ladies

The Ladies Collection marks a striking departure from Lucy Pittaway’s much-loved landscapes and sheep. Inspired by memories of sketching women in gowns at her mum’s dress shop, Lucy has returned to those early ideas to create six new figurative paintings.

Each piece captures women in elegant dresses, brought to life with her signature use of colour, movement and storytelling.

Most people know Lucy for her landscapes and sheep, but the Ladies Collection comes from a different place altogether. The idea began years ago when she spent time in her mum’s wedding dress and flower shop, modelling gowns and sketching women in sweeping dresses whenever she could. Those early drawings stayed with her, even as life and her art moved in other directions.

Recently, seeing her daughter and friends’ daughters in long evening dresses for end-of-school celebrations brought those memories back. It felt like the right moment to explore that side of her creativity again.

This series of six paintings captures women caught in a moment, with all the emotion that brings. It marks a new chapter for Lucy — one that still carries her love of colour, movement, and storytelling, but with a fresh focus on the female form.
