Behind the Scenes: Opening our Gallery in Yarm
Winter is always a special time for the team at Lucy Pittaway, but last year was extra special as we proudly opened the doors to our stunning new art gallery in Yarm. Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes at how Lucy’s third gallery in North Yorkshire came to be.
After several months of discussion, decision making and planning, our directors announced that we’d be opening a wonderful new gallery in Yarm. Our team was delighted, and so, once Lucy had found the perfect spot on Yarm’s bustling High Street, the renovation project began.
While the building was not in a state of complete disrepair, it was in need of lots of TLC to transform it into the warm, inviting space we see today. Lucy and husband Neil worked alongside a team of local carpenters, tradesmen and decorators to complete the project. As with most renovation projects, the team faced a few challenges along the way…
The refurbishment and interior styling enhanced the natural character of the building. The beautiful wooden floors and sash windows on the upper gallery were cleaned up and painted, and stunning monochromatic tiles were laid at the bottom of the wooden staircase.
On the ground floor level, new flooring was laid and a bespoke counter top was built to serve customers and wrap artwork. Bespoke shelves and display units were also created by joiners to showcase Lucy's stunning homeware, stationery and gifts.
Once primed and painted, it was time to add the finishing touches! Lucy and our gallery manager Kelly began hanging Lucy's cheerful artwork on both levels and up the stairs. They added browsers filled with stunning mounted prints, and stocked up the display units with Lucy's beautiful homeware, gifts and cards.
Meander your way through both floors of the gallery and you'll notice fabulous statement lighting with exposed bulbs, complemented by black pipes and woodwork.
If you're out and about, be sure to stop by Lucy's gallery on Yarm High Street. It's the perfect location to while away an afternoon, surrounded by lovely coffee shops, quirky eateries and luxury boutiques.
