Lucy is well known for her landscapes, skies, and sheep, but her latest work moves into new territory. The Ladies Collection is a series of six paintings that focus on women, each captured in a single moment.
The inspiration goes back to Lucy’s teenage years, when she spent time in her mum’s wedding dress and flower shop. She often sketched women in flowing dresses, filling notebooks with ideas. Those drawings stayed with her, even as her career developed in other directions.
Recently, seeing her daughter and friends wearing long dresses for end-of-school celebrations brought those memories to the surface. It felt like the right time to return to those early sketches and explore the subject again.
The result is a body of work that’s different from what people may expect, but still unmistakably Lucy. Colour, movement, and storytelling run through each piece, only this time with a sharper focus on the female form.
The Six Paintings
Rose
A moment of reflection. The figure’s gown is patterned with soft pink blooms, suggesting stillness in a busy world.
Liberty
Strong and striking. A red dress flows through the darkness as the figure steps forward with confidence.
Serenity
Calm and composed. A soft pink gown falls beneath a cascade of flowers, creating a quiet, grounded scene.
Joy
Alive with energy. A golden dress sweeps outward as shifting light plays across the canvas.
Grace
Poised and understated. A sweeping dress and wide-brimmed hat hint at elegance and self-assurance.
Passion
Bold and open. Surrounded by fiery tones, the figure’s lifted hair and flowing dress capture freedom in motion.
A New Chapter
The Ladies Collection is a departure from Lucy’s familiar subjects, but it carries the same spirit as her best-known work. Each painting tells a story through colour and movement, inviting viewers to see a different side of her creativity.
